Real CLADSMAN project / Matrix cladding / Melbourne
Matrix is designed around the joint.
James Hardie Matrix™ Cladding is a smooth, pre-primed fibre cement system with a precise 10 mm expressed joint between panels. Those joints can create square, horizontal, vertical and brick-pattern layouts across a facade.
The joint grid is visible architecture, so the finish begins with set-out. CLADSMAN coordinates panel sizes, openings, corners, fascia, soffits and material changes so the completed elevation feels composed rather than divided into leftover pieces.

These are completed CLADSMAN installations. The close views show the parts that define Matrix work: expressed-joint alignment, balanced panel margins, crisp window reveals and clean changes of plane.
The CLADSMAN approachWe treat the joint grid as part of the architecture, not a pattern added after the wall is built.
The grid must feel intentional.
Matrix rewards planning. Our installation scope follows the current project documentation and product requirements, then resolves the real openings, corners, junctions and access conditions on site.
Panel set-out
Panel sizes and joint positions are coordinated against the elevation so major edges, openings and returns share a clear visual logic.
Expressed-joint accuracy
The 10 mm joint is kept consistent through horizontal and vertical runs so the grid reads crisp in changing light.
Openings and returns
Window surrounds, fascia, soffits and corners are detailed as part of the same panel composition, with clean margins and controlled edges.
Material interfaces
Transitions into masonry, glazing, aluminium battens and other cladding systems are planned so each material keeps its own clean edge.
Panel geometry that defines architectural volumes.
Matrix can turn fascia, upper-storey walls, window surrounds and projecting volumes into one controlled composition. In mixed-material facades, its smooth planes and expressed joints can sit beside masonry, glazing or aluminium battens without losing clarity.
- Contemporary new-home facades
- Upper and ground-floor extensions
- Feature volumes and box forms
- Window surrounds and deep reveals
- Fascia, returns and selected soffit zones
Resolved at every edge.
A Matrix facade is read in its junctions as much as its broad planes. These project views show fascia, soffits, returns and interfaces with aluminium screens from the angles people actually see.
Clean joints continue through the return.
The James Hardie Matrix sheet layout carries its measured expressed joints from the fascia into the soffit, creating a crisp panel grid beneath the aluminium batten screen.
One line carried around the volume.
Fascia, return and soffit planes are coordinated so the projecting form reads cleanly from below.
Joints placed with purpose.
The panel divisions are balanced across the fascia and continue cleanly into the darker soffit plane below.
Planning a Matrix project?
What is James Hardie Matrix cladding?
Matrix is a smooth, pre-primed fibre cement exterior cladding system. Its panels are separated by a precise 10 mm expressed joint, creating a clean architectural panelised look.
What panel layouts can Matrix create?
James Hardie offers panel sizes that can form square, vertical, horizontal and brick-pattern layouts. The final set-out depends on the elevation, framing, openings, chosen panel sizes and current installation requirements.
Where is Matrix cladding commonly used?
Matrix is commonly specified for contemporary new homes, upper or ground-floor extensions, feature volumes, window surrounds and other external areas where a strong geometric panel expression is wanted.
Can CLADSMAN install battens, backing strips and trims?
Depending on the agreed scope, our work can include weather barrier, cavity battens, backing strips, Matrix panels, corners, fascia, soffits, returns, trims and junction detailing. The exact wall build-up must follow the project documentation and current manufacturer requirements.
What should I send for a Matrix installation quote?
Send the project address, plans and elevations, the material schedule, expected timing and current site photos. If the panel pattern has already been designed, include the set-out drawings as well.
